Since the underlying cause of war, despite any ideological window dressing, is the usurpation of someone else’s resources, wouldn’t it be nice if our Armed Services were repurposed to green hot spots and create abundant life rather than dead enemies. They already have the funds, manpower, equipment, and it’s all the right color – green. They’d just have to train the Army Corps of Engineers in Permaculture and micro-economics and give them a strategic role rather than merely a flanking tactical role. Sure, some security would be required while flows of Nature got put right, but if people in those areas had an abundance of food, clothing and self-sufficient shelter, radicals and evil-doers would get no traction and we would win the battle for hearts and minds wherever our Green Services were deployed. Only desperate populations buy into war-monger rationalizations. Where there are no desperate populations, peace and tranquility prevail.
