Great article!! This message must reach the masses. With obesity rising for the last 3 decades and the aging baby boomer population, we are heading for a health care disaster. Treating the diseases related to obesity is not only tragic but also very costly.
Mississippi tops the list of the most obese states at 67% for adults and 44% for children. How can this be acceptable? If the adults don't want to make lifestyle adjustments, surely the children deserve a chance for a healthy future.

I agree, education by those who are indpendent of the unhealthy-food industry is what is essential. Education has already made changes, and I believe this educational process will pick up speed and can't be stopped any more. BTW, the same food-related health problems also affect our 'modern' pets. It is hard to explain to pet guardians that synthetic supplements in their pets' foods is less deirable than feeding a variety of real foods. Industries have done a good job enforcing the 'synthetics are needed in pet foods mantra'. It is hard to unlearn this but it will happen eventually.

I totally agree with Rebecca Spector in that we need to focus on education. Our politicians are not going to do it for they have sold their souls to corporations, including Mr. Obama. It needs to become the duty of those enlightened and concerned individuals who are already working on bringing to light the connection between nutrition and disease.
