Ken Burns’ Dust Bowl—History or Preview?
25 Jul, 2012
Due out this November from PBS is Dust Bowl, a new documentary from the legendary documentarian, Ken Burns. The video trailer below shows some of the haunting images of the Great Plains during the Dust Bowl period of the 1930′s.
With drought, rising commodity food prices and climate change debate vying for our attention in today’s headlines, one has to wonder if we are seeing a repeat of history.
The Dust Bowl is now clearly seen as a man-made disaster through the lens of history and hindsight. More current images of a massive dust storm overtaking the city of Phoenix, Arizona kindle the fear of a repeat of this catastrophe.
The intent of presenting this trailer here is not to generate further fear, but to call to attention these facts:
- The Dust Bowl disaster was man-made.
- Since it was man-made a recurrence is man-preventable.
